God's Throne For Ever and Ever Hebrews 1:8

The Hebrew writer continued to show the superiority of Jesus Christ over the “prophets” and “the angels”, and as He shared how Jesus was the “first-begotten” of the Father, we see in chapter one and verse eight how God has promised Jesus a “throne” that shall last “for ever and ever”. We read:

But unto the Son he says, Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever:
a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom.

The verse begins, “But unto the Son he says, Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever:” The writer began with the word, “But” which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written takes precedence over what was just stated, moreover, nonetheless and nevertheless, “unto the Son” which refers to “Jesus who is the descendant and posterity of God” “he says” or “God utters, declares and proclaims”, “Your throne” which means “Jesus' chair of state with kingly power or royalty and judge”, “O God” which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”, “is for ever and ever” which means “an unbroken age, perpetuity of time and eternity”. Jesus' “chair of state with kingly power” shall never have an end.

The verse continues, “a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom.” The writer added, “a scepter” or “a staff, walking stick, twig, rod or branch” “of righteousness” which means “rectitude and uprightness” “is the scepter” or “the staff, walking stick, twig, rod or branch” “of your kingdom” which refers to “royal power, kingship, dominion and rule”. The ruling “rod or staff” shall be “righteousness” which will prevail throughout Jesus' kingdom and rule.

When we think through these words in Hebrews, we see one of the reasons Jesus is superior to the angels. He shall have a “throne” and “rule” over all the nations, and His rule shall never end. Kings and kingdoms in this world will come and go, but Jesus shall rule forever. We should recognize this powerful and enduring kingdom in which Jesus prevails, and the sooner we ask Him into our lives as Savior and Lord, the sooner we know how it is to live under the “scepter of righteousness”.

Next time we see the writer share how God,“has anointed” Jesus “with the oil of gladness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
