According
to the writer of Hebrews, “If Jesus had given rest” to
the children of Israel, he would not have “spoken of
another day”, and in
chapter four and verse nine of Hebrews we see how for “the
people of God” there
“remains a rest” where we read:
There
remains therefore a rest to the people of God.
The
verse begins, “There remains therefore a rest,...” The
writer began with the words, “There remains”
which means “to leave behind” “therefore”
or “haply, no doubt, perhaps, then and wherefore” “a
rest” which mean “calm,
quiet, restrain and desist”. Because Jesus “spoke” of “another
day”, there “no doubt and with certainty” a “calm, quiet and
restrained” favor with God.
The
verse continues, “ ...to the people of God”. The
writer added, “to the people”
which means “the people group, tribe, nation and all those who are
of the same stock and language” “of God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily or trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. This
promise of “another day of rest” is to God's “people, groups,
tribes and nations”.
When
we think through these words in Hebrews, we see the writer's
conclusion that there is a future “rest” for the people of God.
They become God's children by “receiving” Him as Lord and Savior
- “But as many as received him, to them gave he
power to become the sons of God, even to them that
believe on his name:” (John
1:12).Without a relationship with Jesus, we are not “God's
children”. We are His creation, but we are not His children, and He
desires to have a huge family of “kids”. Oh let us see the value
in the “rest to the people of God”, and should we not know Him as
our personal Lord and Savior, allow Him into your heart and life even
as you finish reading these lines.
Next
time the writer explains how,
“he that is entered into his
rest, he also has cease from his own works”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
