The
writer of Hebrews continued to share about the wandering of Israel in
the desert under Moses. Though God spoke to them, they would not
listen to or obey Him, and chapter three and verse nineteen of
Hebrews we see how because of this, the children of Israel could not
“enter” the promise land“because of unbelief” God
where we read:
So we see
that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
The
verse begins, “So we see that they could not enter in...”
The writer began with the words,
“So we see that”
which means “even then and likewise the Hebrew writer and his
readers behold, take heed, look on and discern” “they
could not enter in” or “may
no, cannot and were not able to go in, make entrance or arise into”.
The children of Israel were not allowed to “enter in”
to the promise land.
The
verse goes on to say, “ ...because of unbelief.” The
writer continued, “because”
which means “by, through and for the cause”, “of
unbelief” or “disbelief,
faithlessness and disobedience”. The reason the people of Israel
could not enter the promise land was because they did not “believe”
God Almighty and His ways.
When
we think through these words in Hebrews, we realize the consequences
of “unbelief” for the children of Israel. All but two of
the children of Israel were not allowed to go into the promise land
simply because they did not “believe” God. The Lord has
provided a way of salvation through His Son Jesus Christ to everyone
who will “believe in Him”. Those who “believe”
shall be saved, and those who do not shall find themselves much like
the children of Israel throughout all eternity. May all who read
these words - “believe”.
Next
time we begin
a new chapter as the writer exhorts us to “fear,
lest, a promise being left us of enter into his rest”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
