The
writer of Hebrews showed Jesus, God's Son, superior to “angels,
prophets, in creation” along
with Moses and his “house”.
The writer also made a reference to a declaration of the Holy Ghost
who said, “Today if you will hear his voice”
and referred to the time when Israel's “fathers tempted”
God in the wilderness for “forty years”,
and in chapter three and verse ten of Hebrews we see how God was
“grieved with that generation” where we read:
Wherefore
I was grieved with that generation, and said,
They do
always err in their
heart; and they have not known my ways.
The
verse begins, “Wherefore I was grieved with that
generation, and said,...” The
writer began with the words, “Wherefore”
which means “on account off, consequently, for which car and
therefore” “I was grieved”
or “wroth, to loathe or displeased with” “with that
generation” which refers to
“with that age or nation”, “and said”
or “uttered, proclaimed and declared”. Because Israel tested”
God over and over in the wilderness, He was “displeased with”
those who were part of them at that time.
The verse continues, “
...They do always err in their heart; and they have not known my
ways”, The
writer added, “They do always err”
which is the
Greek phrase “planaō aie planaō”
which means “the people of Israel continually were lead astray were
wandering” “in their heart”
or “the center of all their physical and spiritual lives”; “and
they have not known”
or “not perceived, understood and were not acquainted with” “my
ways”
which refers to “God's course of conduct, way of thinking, feeling
and deciding”. The people of Israel were constantly “wandering”
in their souls, and they were not acquainted with nor keep God's law.
When
we think through these words in Hebrews, we see how God “loathed”
the behavior of the “wilderness” “generation”, and His
conclusion concerning them was they stayed in a constant state of
“error” within because they did not know or God's law. Jesus
Christ, like those within the wilderness, offers an opportunity to
“know” Him and His ways, however, many people never acknowledge
Him or attempt to relate to Him. Lest we be called those who “always
err” in our “hearts”, let us turn ourselves from our wicked
ways and “rely upon, cling to and trust in” Jesus Christ as our
Savior and Lord.
Next
time we see
the writer share what God swore “in
his wrath”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
