Mark wrote how Jesus said, “there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power”. Afterward Mark continued with the words, “after six days Jesus took with him Peter, and James, and John, and lead them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus”, and in chapter nine and verse five of his book, Mark shared how Peter said, “Master, it is good for us to be here” where we read:
And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here:
and let us make three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
The verse reads, “And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here:” Mark began with the words, “and Peter answered” which means “and Peter whose name means a little rock or stone responded and began to speak” “and said” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed” “to Jesus” which means “to the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”,“Master” which means “Rabbi or teacher”, “it is good” or “it is beautiful, handsome, excellent, eminent, choice, surpassing, precious, useful, suitable, commendable and admirable” “for us” which means “for Peter, James, John and Jesus” “to be here” or “to be in the place were Jesus, Peter, James and John were upon the mountain”. Mark shared how “Peter” began to speak to Jesus, called Him Rabbi and declared that it was a “beautiful and commendable” thing for them to be upon the mountain together.
The verse goes on to say, “and let us make three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.” Mark continued with the words, “and let us make” which means “and allow and permit Peter, James and John to prepare and make ready” “three tabernacles” or “three habitable tents”; “one for you” or “one of the tents for Jesus”, “and one for Moses” which means “and one of the tents for Moses”, “and one for Elias” or “and one of the tents for Elijah”. Mark shared how Peter wanted Jesus to allow them to “build” three “tents” for Jesus, Elijah and Moses”.
When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how this experience affected “Peter”. He was so overwhelmed that he made a proposal to Jesus to build “dwelling places” for “Jesus, Elijah and Moses”. Jesus will respond to Peter's request in the next few verses, so we shall see more of God's plan of “salvation” for mankind then. In order for people to live with God forever, someone needed to die for the sins which separated them from Him. Jesus not only died but was also resurrected from the grave to provide access to Him. Those who read Peter's proposal to Jesus should consider how much God loves them and yield their lives to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”.
Next time Mark shares how said this because, “he did not know what to say”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
