Mark wrote how Jesus, “went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am? And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets. And he said unto them, But whom say you that I am? And Peter answered and said unto him, You are the Christ”, and in chapter eight and verse thirty of his book, Mark shared how Jesus commanded His disciples to, “tell no man of him” where we read:
And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
The verse reads, “And he charged them ...” Mark began with the words, “and he charged” which means “and Jesus commanded, admonished and censured severely” “them” or “His disciples”. Mark shared how Jesus “admonished” His disciples with the following.
The verse continues, “... that they should tell no man of him.” Mark added the words, “that they should tell” which means “that Jesus disciples were to teach, exhort, command, direct or speak to” “no man” or “not any person whether male or female” “of him” which means “pertaining to Jesus”. Mark shared how Jesus directed His disciples not to speak about Him with any person.
When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus did not want His disciples to disclose who He actually was at this time. Eventually people would understand that Jesus is the Messiah, but He had a time and plan for every aspect of His earthly life. God has His timing and order for everything, and His greatest desire is to have people “believe and trust” in His Son Jesus for their “salvation”. When they come to Him and yield themselves to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they shall receive “everlasting, age abiding life” which shall last forever and ever. Everyone shall know Jesus Christ is indeed the Messiah and Lord of the universe, the question is when – before or after they die? “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (See Philippians 2:10-11)
Next time Mark shares how Jesus told His disciples, “that the Son of man must suffer many things”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
