Mark wrote how Jesus said, “there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power”. Afterward Mark continued by writing, “after six days Jesus took with him Peter, and James, and John, and lead them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elias”, and in chapter nine and verse six of his book, Mark shared how Peter said this because, “he did not know what to say” where we read:
For he did not know what to say; for they were sore afraid.
The verse reads, “For he did not know what to say;” Mark began with the words, “for” which means “because, since and on account that” “he did not know” or “Peter did not perceive, understand or discover” “what to say” which means “what he should utter, declare and proclaim”. Mark shared how Peter did not know what he should “say” when He saw Jesus in His “glorified” body standing with “Elijah and Moses”.
The verse continues, “for they were sore afraid.” Mark added the words, “for” which means “because, since and on account that” “they were sore afraid” or “Peter, James and John were exceedingly stricken with fear, terror, fright and terror”. Mark shared how Peter, James and John were “exceedingly frightened and fearful”.
When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we can imagine how “extremely frightened” Peter, James and John were when they saw Jesus in His “glorified” body with “Elijah and Moses”. This sight would cause most people to be oblivious as to what to say, so Peter just said what came to his mind. Jesus loved Peter even when he was afraid and said something out of order. God wants people to be in a personal relationship with every person, and though He knows all their flaws, He wants them to believe and trust in His Son Jesus to forgive their sins and give them everlasting life. May all who read these word regardless of what they know or say come to Jesus just as they are and believe.
Next time Mark shares how Peter said this because, “there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
