Lead Into a High Mountain - Mark 9:2

Mark wrote how Jesus said, “Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels, And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power”, and in chapter nine and verse two of his book, Mark shared, “after six days Jesus took with him Peter, and James, and John, and lead them up into an high mountain” where we read:

And after six days Jesus took with him Peter, and James, and John, and lead them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.

The verse reads,And after six days Jesus took with him Peter, and James, and John, and lead them up into an high mountain apart by themselves:Mark began with the words, “and after six days” which means “and after six sunrises to sunsets” “Jesus took with him” or “Jesus who is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is salvation carried and led alongside Himself” “Peter” whose name means “a little rock or stone”, “and James” whose name means “supplanter” and was the “son of Zebedee who was an apostle and brother of the apostle John who was commonly called James the greater or elder, “and John” whose name means “Jehovah is a gracious giver” and was “the apostle and writer of the Fourth Gospel, son of Zebedee and Salome and brother of James the elder”, “and lead them up into” or “and carried, took and brought them up into” “an high mountain” which refers to “a lofty, exalted and uplifted rising above the plain” “apart” which means “separated from the other disciples” “by themselves” or “and alone”. Mark shared how Jesus lead “Peter, James and John” up into an “exalted mountain” separated from everyone else.

The verse continues, and he was transfigured before them. Mark added the words, “and he was transfigured” which is the Greek word metamorphoō” from which we get the English word “metamorphosis” and means “and Jesus was transformed and changed into another form which was resplendent with divine brightness on the mount of transfiguration” “before them” or “in front of and in the presence of His Peter, James and John”. Mark shared how Jesus went through a “metamorphosis” upon the mount before “Peter, James and John”.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus was “transformed” in front of “Peter, James and John”. Jesus showed “Peter, James and John” His “glorified spiritual” body, and as He changed before them, they were entering into “the Kingdom of God” just as He promised before. God desires to have every person be a part of His Kingdom through His Son Jesus, and when they receive their “glorified” bodies, they shall be with God the Father and Jesus His Son forever and ever.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus', “raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
