Luke the beloved physician wrote, “when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer. For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse eighteen of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come” where we read:
For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
The verse reads, “For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, ...” Luke began with the words, “for I say unto you” or “even so, indeed, seeing then and therefore I, Jesus, utter, declare and proclaim to you, disciples”, “I will not drink” which means “I, Jesus, shall not imbibe” “of the fruit of the vine” or “pertaining to the produce belonging to the vine branch”. Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples He would not “drink” of the “vine's produce”.
The verse goes on to say, “... until the kingdom of God shall come.” Luke continued with the words, “until the kingdom of God” or “till the royal power, kingship, reign and rule belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “shall come” which means “will arise and appear”. Luke shared how Jesus said He would “not drink of the fruit of the vine” till “God's Kingdom” appears.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus knew He would not “drink” with His disciples from this point until the Kingdom of God appeared. Jesus was to “shed” His blood for the remission of sins of the people throughout the world. He would actually “bear” and “drink” of that cup by Himself, and no one else was or ever will be worthy to partake of it. God loves people, and when they submit their lives to His Son Jesus and ask Him to “forgive” their sins, He not only “forgives” them, but He also promises to grant them everlasting life with His Father God. Let all who consider this statement of Jesus yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus, “took bread, and gave thanks, and broke it, and gave it unto them, saying, this is my body which is given for you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
