In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded. Joshua smote them from Kadeshbarnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon”, and in chapter ten and verse forty-two of the book of Joshua, we learn how, “all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time” where we read,
And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time,
because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.
The verse reads, “And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time,…” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and all these kings” which means “and each, every and the whole number of these royal rulers and leaders” “and their land” or “and their, the royal rulers’, territories, districts, regions and cities” “did Joshua take” which means “Joshua whose name means Jehovah is salvation seized, captured and occupied” “at one time” or “in a single stroke, occurrence and order”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Joshua” seized and captured every one of the royal rulers and their territories in a single order and occurrence.
The verse goes on to say, “… because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “because the LORD God” which means “since and on account that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God the Supreme Deity” “of Israel” or “belonging to Israel whose name means ‘God prevails’ and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “fought for Israel” which means “battled and warred on behalf of Israel whose name means ‘God prevails’ and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Joshua” and the people of “Israel” seized “all the kings and their lands at one time” on account of the Supreme Deity of Israel who is Jehovah God battled on behalf of them.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Joshua or the writer how “Joshua” captured every one of the royal rulers and their territories in a single order because Jehovah God, the Supreme Deity, battled on their behalf. God loves the people of Israel, and because they were to be the nation through whom the entire world would be blessed, (See Genesis 12:3) He “fought” for them. God wants everyone, regardless of their nation and tribe, to come to Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and to empower us to live according to that truth so we may be victorious over our enemies one at at time. (See John 16:13; Acts 1:8)
Next time we learn how, “Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
