In the book of Joshua, we learned how Jehovah God said, “This is the inheritance of the children of Gad after their families, the cities, and their villages”, and in chapter thirteen and verse twenty-nine of Joshua we learn how, “Moses gave inheritance unto the half tribe of Manasseh” where we read,
And Moses gave inheritance unto the half tribe of Manasseh:
and this was the possession of the half tribe of the children of Manasseh by their families.
The verse reads, “And Moses gave inheritance unto the half tribe of Manasseh:” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and Moses” whose name means “drawn out” and was “the prophet, lawgiver and leader of the exodus” “gave inheritance” or “granted, bestowed, allotted and assigned a possession, property, heritage, portion and share” “unto the half tribe” which means “to one-half of the people group or clan” “of Manasseh” or “belonging to Manasseh whose name means ‘causing to forget’ and was the eldest son of Joseph and progenitor of the tribe of Manasseh”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Moses” assigned a possession to “one-half” of the “tribe of Manasseh”.
The verse goes on to say, “and this was the possession of the half tribe of the children of Manasseh by their families.” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “and this was the possession” which means “and the following existed as the allotment, share and portion” “of the half tribe” or “pertaining to one-half of the people group or clan” “of the children” which means “belonging to the offspring and progeny” “of Manasseh” or “belonging to Manasseh whose name means ‘causing to forget’ and was the eldest son of Joseph and progenitor of the tribe of Manasseh” “by their families” which means “through the means of their, the one-half tribe of Manasseh’s, kindred and kinsmen”. Joshua or the writer shared how the following territory was assigned to “one-half” of the “tribe of Manasseh”.
When we think through the words in this verse, we discover the next group of people from the nation of “Israel” who were to receive and “inheritance” from Jehovah God through “Moses”. “One-half” of the people who belonged to the “tribe of Manasseh” desired to have their portion to be on the eastern side of the “Jordan River”, and we shall see what that allotment was in our next few verses. For now, let us realize that Jehovah God was providing land and territories for these “tribes” to raise their families, and when we see that which He provided for the “one-half tribe of Manasseh”, we should be encouraged that He has an inheritance in mind for us as well. When He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days, He made the way for everyone who believe and trusts in Him as their “Savior and Lord” to be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and provided with His Holy Spirit who will guide them into all truth and empower them to live according to that truth so they will live in a manner that is pleasing to Him and is in alignment with receiving an eternal inheritance with Him some day. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 1:18)
Next time we learn how, “their coast was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
