The Kings of Jerusalem and Hebron - Joshua 12:10

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “these are the kings of the country which Joshua and the children of Israel smote on this side Jordan on the west, from Baalgad in the valley of Lebanon even unto the mount Halak, that goes up to Seir; which Joshua gave unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions. In the mountains, and in the valleys, and in the plains, and in the springs, and in the wilderness, and in the south country; the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. The king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one”, and in chapter twelve and verse ten of Joshua we discover how “Israel” conquered, “the king of Jerusalem” and “the king of Hebron” where we read,

The king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one;

The verse reads, “the king of Jerusalem, one;” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of Jerusalem” or “belonging to Jerusalem whose name means ‘teaching of peace’ and was the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”, “one” which means “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua or the writer included the royal ruler belonging to “Jerusalem” to be among the ones “Israel” defeated and possessed their land.

The verse goes on to say, “the king of Hebron, one;” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of Hebron” or “belonging to Hebron whose name means a city in south Judah approximately twenty miles south of Jerusalem and approximately twenty miles (30 km) north of Beersheba and near where Abraham built an altar”, “one” which means “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua or the writer also included the royal ruler of “Hebron” to be among the ones “Israel” defeated and possessed their land.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover that “Jerusalem and Hebron” were additional regions where “Israel” conquered the royal ruler and took possession of his land. Jehovah God gave these territories to “Israel”, and their part was to obey Him and fulfill His desire in their lands. God wants us to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and lead us into areas He desires to give us in this life and in our eternal life to come. (See John 16:13; Ephesians 1:11,14,18; Colossians 1:12; 3:24)

Next time we discover how “Israel” overtook, “the king of Jarmuth” and the king of Lachish”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
