Taanach and Megiddo - Joshua 12:21

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other western side of Jordan” which included, “the kings of Jericho, Ai, which is beside Bethel, Jarmuth, and Lachish, Eglon and Gezer, Debir, and Geder, Hormah, Arad, Libnah, Adullam, Makkedah, Bethel, Aphek and Lasharon, Aphek, Lasharon, Madon, Hazor, Shimronmeron and Achshaph”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-one of Joshua we discover how “Israel” conquered, “the king of Taanach” and “the king of Megiddo” where we read,

The king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one;

The verse reads, “The king of Taanach, one;” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of Taanach” or “belonging to Taanach or Tanach whose name means ‘sandy’ and was an ancient Canaanite city conquered by Joshua and allotted to the half tribe of Manasseh although in the territory of Issachar; given to the Kohathite Levites; located on the west of the Jordan and near the waters of Megiddo”, “one” which means “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua or the writer shared how the royal ruler and territory belonging to “Taanach” was also overcome by “Joshua” and the people of “Israel”

The verse continues, “the king of Megiddo”; one;” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of Megiddo” or “belonging to Megiddo whose name means ‘place of crowds’ and was an ancient city of Canaan assigned to Manasseh and located on the southern rim of the plain of Esdraelon six miles (10 km) from Mount Carmel and eleven miles (18 km) from Nazareth”, “one” which means “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua or the writer shared how the royal leader belonging to “Megiddo” and their region was conquered by “Joshua” and the people of “Israel”.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover another two cities that were defeated by “Joshua” and the people of “Israel”. “Taanach” and “Megiddo” were seized as well as their royal leader by “Israel”, and now “Israel” was to possess their land. Jehovah God was giving “Israel” this promise land, and little by little they were possessing their allotments from Him. God knew what “Israel” needed, and He supplied it for them. God knows that we need salvation from our sins and the penalty of death that accompanies them. (See Romans 3:23; 6:23) We all have sinned against Him, and for this reason He sent His Only Begotten Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. (See John 3:16) When Jesus rose from the grave three days later, He provided the way through faith and trust in Him to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and equipped with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to that truth so we too may participate in that which He has allotted to us in this life and in Heaven with Him.

Next time we see how “Israel” conquered, “the king of Kedesh" and “the king of Jokneam of Carmel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
