In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other western side of Jordan” which included, “the kings of Jericho, Ai, which is beside Bethel, Jarmuth, Lachish, Eglon, Gezer, Debir,, Geder, Hormah, Arad, Libnah, Adullam, Makkedah, Bethel, Aphek, Lasharon, Madon and Hazor”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty of Joshua we discover how “Israel” conquered, “the king of Shimronmeron” and “the king of Achshaph” where we read,
The king of Shimronmeron, one; the king of Achshaph, one;
The verse reads, “The king of Shimronmeron, one;” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of Shimronmeron” or “belonging to Shimronmeron whose name means ‘watch-height’ of Meron”, “one” which means “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua or the writer shared how the royal ruler and territory belonging to “Shimronmeron” was also conquered by “Joshua” and the people of “Israel”.
The verse continues, “the king of Achshaph”; one;” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of Achshaph” or “belonging to Achshaph whose name means ‘I shall be bewitched’ and was city in north Canaan at foot of Mt Carmel”, “one” which means “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua or the writer included the royal leader and region of “Achshaph” among the lands which were defeated by “Joshua” and the army of “Israel”.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn about two more of the royal rulers and their territories, “Shimronmeron and Achshaph”, which were overtaken by “Joshua” and the people of “Israel”. God was on the move on behalf of the people of “Israel”, and He defeated these people groups to fulfill His word to “Israel” to give them the promise land. God keeps His promises, and He promised to give forgiveness of sins and eternal life to every person who submits to His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead after three days. When we put our faith and trust in Him, God will give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and teach us the value of aligning with Him in all our ways so we too may inherit that which He has promised in keeping with His perfect purpose and will.
Next time we see how “Israel” conquered, “the king of Taanach” and “the king of Megiddo”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
