In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “This then was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families; even to the border of Edom the wilderness of Zin southward was the uttermost part of the south coast”, and in chapter fifteen and verse two of Joshua we learn how, “their south border was from the shore of the salt sea” where we read,
And their south border was from the shore of the salt sea, from the bay that looks southward:
The verse reads, “And their south border was from the shore of the salt sea, …” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and their south border” which means “and their, the tribe of Judah’s, edge, circuit and boundary within the southern direction” “was from the shore” or “existed from the end, extremity, border and outskirts” “of the salt sea” which means “belonging to the large body of water imbued with salt”. Joshua or the writer shared how the boundary of the territory for the “tribe of Judah” in the southern direction existed from the outskirts of the large body of water with “salt”.
The verse continues, “… from the bay that looks southward:” Joshua or the writer added the words, “from the bay” which means “separate and apart from the tongue-shaped wedge of the cove of water” “that looks southward” or “that turns and declines within a southern direction”. Joshua or the writer shared how the boundary of the “tribe of Judah” also extended from the wedge sharped water cove in the southern direction.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn more about the boundaries to the territory that was given to the “tribe of Judah” within the promise land. Their boundary stretched from the edge of the large body of water known as the “salt sea” in the southern direction and apart from the wedge shaped cove of water also within the south. Boundary by boundary God was setting up “Judah” with the region where they could live their lives and raise their “families”. God loves people, and when we surrender to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and equip us with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and help us live according to that truth so that we too receive an inheritance from Him. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 1:18)
Next time we learn more about the border for the children of Judah and their families, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
