Dor and the Nations of Gilgal - Joshua 12:23

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other western side of Jordan” which included, “the kings of Jericho, Ai, which is beside Bethel, Jarmuth, and Lachish, Eglon and Gezer, Debir, and Geder, Hormah, Arad Libnah, Adullam, Makkedah, Bethel, Aphek and Lasharon, Aphek, Lasharon, Madon, Hazor, Shimronmeron, Achshaph, Taanach, Megiddo, Kedesh and Jokneam of Carmel”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-three of Joshua we discover how “Israel” conquered, “the king of Dor in the coast of Dor” and “the king of the nations of Gilgal” where we read,

The king of Dor in the coast of Dor, one; the king of the nations of Gilgal, one;

The verse reads, “The king of Dor in the coast of Dor, one;” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of Dor” or “belonging to Dor whose name means ‘generation’ and was a coastal city in Manasseh, south of Carmel“, “in the coast of Dor” which means “within the lofty place, sieve or height belonging to Dor”, “one” or “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua shared how the royal ruler and territory belonging to “Dor” which was in the lofty place was overtaken by “Joshua” and the people of “Israel”

The verse goes on to say, “the king of the nations of Gilgal, one;” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of the nations” or “pertaining to the foreign people groups and gentiles” “of Gilgal” which means “belonging to Gilgal whose name means ‘a wheel or rolling’ and was the first site of an Israelite camp west of the Jordan, east of Jericho, here Samuel was judge, and Saul was made king; later used for illicit worship”, “one” which means “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua or the writer shared how the royal leader pertaining to the pagan gentiles who belonged to “Gilgal” were also defeated by “Joshua” and the people of “Israel”

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover how “Dor” and the “nations of Gilgal” and their leaders were also conquered by “Joshua” and the people of “Israel”. God was providing the promise land for the people of “Israel”, and He will provide for us as well when we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead after three days. God will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide us with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and lead us in His Kingdom to the places He desires to give us in this world when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time we see how “Israel” conquered, “the king of Tirzah” and all the kings thirty and one”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
