In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other western side of Jordan” which included, “the kings of Jericho, Ai, which is beside Bethel, Jarmuth, and Lachish, Eglon and Gezer, Debir, and Geder, Hormah, Arad, Libnah, Adullam, Makkedah, Bethel, Aphek and Lasharon, Aphek, Lasharon, Madon, Hazor, Shimronmeron, Achshaph, Taanach and Megiddo”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-two of Joshua we discover how “Israel” conquered, “the king of Kedesh” and“the king of Jokneam of Carmel” where we read,
The king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam of Carmel, one;
The verse reads, “The king of Kedesh, one;” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of Kedesh” or “belonging to Kedesh whose name means ‘holy place’ and was a city in the extreme south of Judah”, “one” which means “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Joshua” and the people of “Israel” also conquered the royal ruler and territory belonging to “Kedesh”.
The verse continues, “the king of Jokneam of Carmel”; one;” Joshua or the writer added the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of Jokneam” or “pertaining to Jokneam whose name means ‘the people lament’ and was a city of Canaan conquered by Joshua and in the territory of Zebulun but allotted to the Merarite Levites and located on Mount Carmel” “of Carmel” which means “belonging to Carmel whose name means ‘garden-land’ and was a mountain on the Mediterranean coast of northern Israel, just below Haifa”, “one” which means “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Joshua” and the people of “Israel” also overtook the royal ruler and territory belonging to “Jokneam of Carmel”.
When we think through the words in this verse, we find another two royal rulers and their territories that were conquered by Joshua” and the people of “Israel”. Next on the list were “Kedesh” and “Jokneam” whose lands the people of “Israel” occupied. Each of these places were provided by Jehovah God who fought on behalf of “Israel”, and step by step and city by city they were inheriting the promise land. God desires to have this type of relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the grave after three days. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and to help us receive all He has for us in this life and in our life with Him in Heaven.
Next time we see how “Israel” conquered, “the king of Dor in the coast of Dor” and “the king of the nations of Gilgal”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
