Divide the Land for an Inheritance - Joshua 13:7

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, you are old and stricken in years, and there remains yet very much land to be possessed” which included among others, “All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephothmaim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide you it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded you”, and in chapter thirteen and verse seven of Joshua we discover how Jehovah God told “Joshua”, “divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes” where we read,

Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes,

and the half tribe of Manasseh,

The verse reads, “Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, …” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “now therefore divide this land” which means “at this time wherefore, then and on this account share, allot, apportion and assign the territories that had been conquered by Israel” “for an inheritance” or “on behalf of a possession, heritage, portion and share” “unto the nine tribes” which means “to the nine clans or people groups belonging to Israel”. Joshua or the writer shared how Jehovah God told “Joshua” to apportion the territories that were overtaken in the promise land to the nine clans of “Israel”

The verse goes on to say, “… and the half tribe of Manasseh, …” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “and the half tribe” which means “and the one-half clan or people group” “of Manasseh” or “belonging to Manasseh whose name means ‘causing to forget’ and was the eldest son of Joseph and progenitor of the tribe of Manasseh”. Joshua or the writer shared how Jehovah God also told Joshua to distribute the conquered territories to the one-half people clan of “Manasseh” who were part of the group who crossed the Jordan river to remain on the western side.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God decided when to apportion the different regions of the promise land to the “nine and one-half tribes” of “Israel”. We shall be reminded how the “Reubenites, Gadites and the other one-half tribe of Manasseh” already received their portions on the eastern side of the Jordan river., but now was the time for the remainder of the “tribes” to receive their inheritance. God orchestrated all of these things because He loves the people of “Israel”, and in a similar manner He will provide for us as well. When He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days, He made the way through belief and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord” to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and equipped with the power of His Holy Spirit who will guide us into the truth and and help us receive the inheritance that He has in store for us in this life and in the next. (See 1 Corinthians 2:9)

Next time we discover how, “the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
