In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance. Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel. And the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war”, and in chapter fifteen and verse one of Joshua we learn about, “the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families” where we read,
This then was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families; even to the border of Edom the wilderness of Zin southward was the uttermost part of the south coast.
The verse reads, “This then was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families;” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “this then” which means “the following at that time” “was the lot of the tribe” or “existed as the portion, recompense, portion or share pertaining the people group or clan” “of the children of Judah” which means “belonging to the offspring and progeny belonging to Judah whose name means “praised’ and was the tribe descended from Judah the son of Jacob” “by their families” or “according to their, the prodigy of Judah’s, clan, kindred, people and tribe”. Joshua or the writer began to share of the promise land that was given to the offspring belonging to “Judah” according to their clan and tribe.
The verse goes on to say, “even to the border of Edom the wilderness of Zin southward was the uttermost part of the south coast.” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “even to the border of Edom” which means “unto the edge, circuit and boundary belonging to Edom whose name means ‘red’” “the wilderness of Zin” or “the pasture, uninhabited land and desert open field belonging to Zin whose name means ‘flat’ and the name given to a portion of the desert tract between the Dead Sea and Arabah on the east in which Kadesh-barnea was located” “southward” which means “in a southern direction”“was the uttermost part” or “existed as the end, extremity and border” “of the south coast” which means “belonging to the southern territory, quarter and region”. Joshua or the writer shared how the plot of land given to the tribe of Judah was also from edge or boundary belonging to “Edom” which was located within the desert place belonging to “Zin” in the southern direction within the extreme border of the “south”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover the territory that was allotted to the “tribe of Judah” along with their kindred. Their boundaries were from the edge of “Edom” which was within the desert field belonging to “Zin” which was in an extreme southern direction. Parcel by parcel Jehovah God was giving the promise land to His people “Israel”. In other words, Jehovah God fulfilled His promise. God loves people, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and to be raised from the dead after three days, He made the way through faith and trust in Him to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and equipped with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and give us the ability to live in a way that is pleasing to Him and shall receive all the inheritance He decides to give to us.
Next time we begin a new chapter and learn how, “their south border was from the shore of the salt sea”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
