Jahazah, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath - Joshua 13:18

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “Moses gave unto the tribe of the children of Reuben inheritance according to their families. And their coast was from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain by Medeba. Heshbon, and all her cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamothbaal, and Bethbaalmeon”, and in chapter thirteen and verse eighteen of Joshua we learn how, “Jahazah, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath” were also part of the tribe of Reuben’s inheritance where we read,

And Jahazah, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, …

The verse reads, “Jahazah, and Kedemoth, …” Joshua or the writer began with the word, “Jabazah” or Jahaz or Jahazah or Jahzah whose name means  “trodden down” and was a place in Reuben east of the Dead Sea where Israel defeated Sihon king of the Amorites; site uncertain, “and Kedemoth” whose name means “eastern” and was one of the towns in the district east of the Dead Sea allotted to the tribe of Reuben and given to the Merarite Levites. Joshua or the writer shared how Jehovah God named “Jahazah, and Kedemoth” as locations that were given to the “tribe of Reuben” for an inheritance.

The verse continues, “… and Mephaath …Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “and Mephaath” whose name means “splendor or height” and was a city of Reuben allotted to the Merarite Levites lying in the district of the Mishor; site uncertain. Joshua or the writer shared how Jehovah God added “Mephaath” to the list of cities that were given to the “tribe of Reuben”

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn about three more territories that were given to the “tribe of Reuben” as an inheritance by Jehovah God. Each of these places were not only conquered by “Israel” through the power of Jehovah God, but they were also occupied by the “tribe of Reuben”. God provided for the people of Israel, and He will provide for us as well, especially when we receive His Son Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”. Jesus was sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and He rose from the grave three days later so all who put their faith and trust in Him will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and equipped with His Holy Spirit who will guide them into all truth and empower them to live according to that truth so they too may receive an inheritance from Jehovah God that shall last for all eternity. (See John 16:13; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 1:11, 18; Colossians 1:12)

Next time we learn how Jehovah God shares about, “Kirjathaim, and Sibmah, and Zarethshahar”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
