Aphek and Lasharon - Joshua 12:18

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other western side of Jordan” which included, “the kings of Jericho, Ai, which is beside Bethel, Jarmuth, and Lachish, Eglon and Gezer, Debir, and Geder, Hormah, Arad, Libnah, Adullam, Makkedah, Bethel, Aphek and Lasharon”, and in chapter twelve and verse eighteen of Joshua we discover how “Israel” conquered, “the king of Aphek” and“the king of Lasharon” where we read,

The king of Aphek,, one; the king of Lasharon, one;

The verse reads, “The king of Aphek, one;” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of Aphek” or “belonging to Aphek or Aphik whose name means ‘enclosure’ and was a Canaanite city near Jezreel”, “one” which means “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua or the writer shared how the royal ruler of “Aphek” was also among the territories that “Joshua” and the people of “Israel” conquered.

The verse continues, “the king of Lasharon”; one;” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of Lasharon” or “belonging to  Lasharon whose name means ‘a plain or level” and was the district lying between the mountains of central Palestine and the Mediterranean Sea and north of Joppa”, “one” which means “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua or the writer shared how the royal leader and territories belonging to “Lasharon” were among the lands which were occupied by “Joshua” and the people of “Israel”

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the royal rulers and the territories of “Aphek” and “Lasharon” were two more of the regions overtaken by “Joshua” and the people of “Israel”. Sometimes a list of names in the Bible can seem tedious to study, however, we should keep in mind that these were people who were living in defiance to God on the earth. For this reason, God removed them and put the people of “Israel” in their dwelling places. God wants everyone to obey Him, and when we receive His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, regardless of how wicked we have been, and grant us everlasting life with Him. He will also give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth as He leads us into the inheritance He has provided for us in this life and the next in Heaven with Him.

Next time we see how “Israel” conquered, “the king of Madon” and “the king of Hazor”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
