In the book of Joshua, we learned In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other western side of Jordan” which included, “the kings of Jericho, Ai, which is beside Bethel, Jarmuth, and Lachish, Eglon and Gezer, Debir, and Geder”, and in chapter twelve and verse fourteen of Joshua we discover how “Israel” conquered, “the king of Hormah” and “the king of Arad” where we read,
The king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one;
The verse reads, “The king of Hormah, one;” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of Hormah” or “belonging to Harmah whose name means ‘devotion’ and was a town of the Canaanites which was conquered by Joshua and allotted to Judah and located in the south of Judah”, “one” which means “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua or the writer included the royal ruler of “Hormah” who was among the leaders that “Israel” conquered and possessed their land.
The verse goes on to say, “the king of Arad, one;” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “the king” which means “the royal ruler and leader” “of Arad” or “belonging to Arad whose name means ‘a wild ass’ and was a royal city of the Canaanites north of the wilderness of Judah”, “one” which means “a single royal ruler and leader”. Joshua or the writer included the royal ruler of “Hormah” who was among the leaders that “Israel” conquered and possessed their land.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn about two more “kings” and their territories which were conquered by “Israel”. The leaders of “Hormah and Arad” were next on the list of the people and territories that were defeated. Each of these were given to “Israel” by Jehovah God, and they all demonstrated God’s progressive giving of the “promise land” to them. God loves “Israel”, and He loves us. When He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days, He made the way through faith and trust in Him to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and provided with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and progressively give us all the inheritance He has for us in this life and the next.
Next time we see how “Israel” conquered, “the king of Libnah” and “the king of Adullam”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
