Hands Laid on Jesus - Mark 14:46

Mark wrote how Judas gave the religious leaders a sign concerning Jesus, “saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely. And as soon as he was come, he went straightway to him, and said, Master, master; and kissed him”, and in chapter fourteen and verse forty-six of his book, Mark shared how, “they laid their hands on” Jesus, where we read:

And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

The verse reads, “And they laid their hands on him, ...”. Mark began with the word, “and they laid their hands” which means “and those who came to capture and take Jesus away grabbed and put their physical hands” “on him” or “upon Jesus”. Mark shared how the men “who arrested” Jesus put their hands upon Him immediately after Judas kissed Him.

The verse goes on to say, “... and took him. Mark continued with the words, “and took” which means “and seized, were masters over and gained power over” “him” which refers to “Jesus”. Mark shared how those who came to arrest Jesus “seized” and “took control” of Him.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how the people who came to arrest Jesus did so immediately after Judas “kissed” Him affectionately. The “kiss” identified who Jesus was, and the men who were there to “capture” Him knew He was the one they should take. Once again we see the compassionate and loving grace of Jesus Christ demonstrated as the Creator of the Universe allowed feeble men to “arrest” Him when He could have spoken one word and they would have vanished. This “willing act” of Jesus demonstrates to anyone who will take the time to look just how much God loves them and to what great lengths He went to obtain their salvation. Submission to Jesus as a personal “Savior and Lord” is the best response to this amazing act of love which led to the remission of sins so people could live forever with God.

Next time Mark shares how, “one of them that stood by drew a sword”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
