The beloved physician Luke wrote, “Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. And they said unto him, Where will you that we prepare? And he said unto them, Behold, when you are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he enters in. And you shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master says unto you, Where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? And he shall show you a large upper room furnished: there make ready. And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover. And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse sixteen of his book Luke shared how Jesus says, “I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God” where we read:
For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
The verse reads, “For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, ...” Luke began with the words, “for I say unto you” or “because, since and on account that I, Jesus, utter, declare and proclaim to you, twelve disciples”, “I will not any more eat thereof” which means “I, Jesus, will not devour, consume or eat a passover meal” any longer. Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples He would not “eat” the passover with them any longer until the following time.
The verse goes on to say, “... until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” Luke continued with the words, “until it be fulfilled” or “till the passover is completed and finished” “in the kingdom” which means “within the royal power, kingship, rule and reign” “of God” or “belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Luke shared how Jesus said He would not “eat” of the passover till the time it was completed within God's Kingdom and royal rule.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus said the completion of the “passover” would be the next time He would participate with eating with His disciples. God's plan of “salvation” for mankind was underway, and although Jesus was eating this meal with His disciples, the fulfillment of it's meaning would give way to the next opportunity to dine with them. Jesus came to be God's “passover sacrificial lamb”, and when He died upon the cross He fulfilled all that was necessary to pay for the “sins” of everyone. Those who are wise will carefully consider every detail in Jesus' plan and yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus, “took the cup, and gave thanks”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
