The apostle John wrote how Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever. Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you”, and in chapter fourteen and verse eighteen of his book John shared how Jesus told His disciples, “I will not leave you comfortless”, where we read:
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
The verse reads, “I will not leave you comfortless:” John began with the words, “I will not leave you” which means “I, Jesus, shall in no way send or bid you, disciples of Jesus, to depart and go away” “comfortless” or “bereft of a teacher, guide or guardian like an orphan”. John shared how Jesus told His disciples He would not send them away without a “teacher or guide”.
The verse goes on to say, “I will come to you.” John continued with the words, “I will come” which means “I, Jesus, will arise and appear” “to you” or “to you, disciples of Jesus”. John shared how Jesus told His disciples He would “arise and appear” to them and not leave them alone.
When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus was to be with His disciples even after He departed from them. The disciples of Jesus would need a teacher and guide, and Jesus promised to continue to help them. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and when they surrender their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive their sins, grant them eternal life and give them “the Spirit of truth” to help and guide them through their lives. Those who consider Jesus' “comfort” and “presence” should yield their lives to Him and enjoy the provision and instruction He promised to give.
Next time John shares how Jesus says, “yet a little while, and the world sees me no more”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
