The apostle John wrote how Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments”, and in chapter fourteen and verse sixteen of his book John shared how Jesus said the Father, “shall give you another Comforter”, where we read:
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter,
that he may abide with you for ever;
The verse reads, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, ...” John began with the words, “and I will pray” which means “and I, Jesus, will request, entreat, beg and beseech” “the Father” or “the Heavenly Father God”, “and he shall give you” which means “and he, the Heavenly Father God, will grant, bestow, furnish and supply to you, disciples of Jesus” “another Comforter” or “a different and other One who comes alongside who pleads another's cause before a judge as a pleader, counsel for defense, legal assistant and advocate”. John shared how Jesus told His disciples He would “entreat” His Father God to provide “another” One who would come alongside them.
The verse goes on to say, “... that he may abide with you for ever;” John continued with the words, “that he may abide” which means “so he, the Comforter, will remain, sojourn and tarry” “with you for ever” or “alongside you, the disciples of Jesus, to the unbroken age, perpetuity of time and eternity”. John shared Jesus said the “Comforter” would come alongside His disciples so He could “remain and tarry” with them for all eternity.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus was to supply the “helper” or “Comforter” His disciples would need to “keep” His “commandments”. The “advocate, defender, pleader and counsel for defense” from God Almighty would be with them at all times, and when they needed “help”, He would be alongside them. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they submit their lives to Him as their “Savior and Lord”, He will provide them with “the Comforter” who will give them the ability to “keep His commands”. Let all who read these words understand the wonderful love and benefits a person may have by yielding themselves to Jesus.
Next time John shares how Jesus says “the Comforter” is, “the Spirit of truth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
