The apostle John wrote how Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also”, and in chapter fourteen and verse four of his book John shared how Jesus said, “and where I go you know” where we read:
And where I go you know, and the way you know.
The verse reads, “And where I go you know, ...” John began with the words, “and where I go” which means “and the place and location I, Jesus, withdraw and depart to” “you know” or “you, disciples of Jesus, perceive, notice, discern and discover”. John shared how Jesus told His disciples they were aware of the “place” He was going.
The verse continues, “... and the way you know.” John added the words, “and the way” which means “and the traveled road and journey” “you know” or “you, disciples of Jesus, perceive, notice, discern and discover”. John shared how Jesus told His disciples they also “perceived” the journey they must take to the “place” He was going.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus told His disciples that they “perceived” not only “where” He was going, but also the “way” to get there. Jesus was preparing His disciples for His departure from them, and soon He was to die on the cross for the sins of the world, be raised from the dead three days later and ascend into Heaven to be with His Father God. Jesus' disciples would be left on the earth to “journey” to the same “location” where Jesus was going, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” may follow them as well. God loves people, and His desire is to have them live with Him forever. The final “place” is Heaven, and they “way” is through a relationship with Jesus. Those who are wise will “know where” Jesus went and follow the “way” to be there too.
Next time John shares how Jesus' disciple Thomas says, “how can we know the way?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
