In Psalms chapter fifty one David told God, “open you my lips; and my mouth shall show forth your praise. For you desire not sacrifice; else would I give it: you delight not in burnt offering”, and in chapter fifty-one and verse seventeen of Psalms David declared, “the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit”, where we read,
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
The verse begins, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit:” David began with the words, “The sacrifices of God” or “the thank offerings belonging to the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “are a broken spirit” which means “exist as a crushed, wrecked, sorrowed, troubled, down and ruptured mind, disposition and seat of emotions, passions and ambitions”. David said the true offering provided to Jehovah God exists as a crushed, sorrowed and troubled soul, mind and disposition.
The verse continues, “a broken and a contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” David added the words, “a broken” or “a ruptured, maimed, crippled and shattered” “and a contrite heart” which means “and a crushed and broken inner man, mind, will, understanding, thinking, reflection, memory or conscience”, “O God” or “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “you will not despise” which means “you, Lord Jehovah God, shall in no way or manner hold in contempt, disdain, make vile or worthless”. David knew Jehovah God would in no way hold in contempt or disdain a ruptured, crippled, crushed and shattered inner man, mind and soul.
When we meditate upon words in this verse, we see how David understood what God really wanted from him. Rather than sacrifices of animals and religious activities, David knew God sought for a ruptured and down disposition, a crushed mind and broken inner man. When a person humbles themselves before Jehovah God, repents of their sins and asks forgiveness, He will grant their request as they submit to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Jesus came into the world to die for the sins of all mankind, and when we come before Him in humility and accept His invitation, He will not hold us in contempt and grant us everlasting life.
Next time David says, “Do good in your good pleasure unto Zion”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
