Consenting with a Thief - Psalms 50:18

In Psalms chapter fifty Asaph said, “unto the wicked God says, What have you to do to declare my statutes, or that you should take my covenant in your mouth? Seeing you hate instruction, and cast my words behind you”, and in chapter fifty and verse eighteen of Psalms Asaph shared how Jehovah God told the wicked, “when you saw a thief, then you consent with him” where we read,

When you saw a thief, then you consented with him, and have been partaker with adulterers.

The verse begins, When you saw a thief, then you consented with him, ...” Asaph began with the words, “when you saw a thief” or “at the time and moment you, wicked people, observed, noticed, discovered, discerned and beheld a stealer”, “then you consented” which means “at that time you, wicked people, were pleased with, accepted and were favorable” “with him” or “alongside the thief”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God told the “wicked” they were accepting and favorable to a person who steals.

The verse continues, “... and have been partaker with adulterers.” Asaph added the words, “and have been partaker” or “and have shared and taken part, award and portion” “with adulterers” which means “alongside people who commit adultery and break wedlock”. Asaph shared how the “wicked” also share and take part with people who commit adultery and break their marriage vows.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how God gets more specific with the “wicked's” actions as He tells them they are favorable to a “stealer” and take part with people who break their marriage vows. God loves people, but He hates sin, and when people violate His laws and align themselves with those who do, they sin against God. Paul the apostle wrote, “All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”, (See Romans 3:23) and “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. (See Romans 6:23) John the apostle wrote, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”, (See John 3:16) and He is willing to forgive the sins of everyone who relies upon, trusts in and clings to Him. Let us yield ourselves to Jesus and never be known among the “wicked” who “consent” with thieves and share in part with “adulterers”.

Next time Asaph shares how Jehovah God tells the wicked, you give your mouth to evil, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
