Psalms chapter fifty five begins with the heading, “[[To the chief Musician on Neginoth, Maschil, A Psalm of David.]]” which breaks down, “to the chief Musician” or “to the preeminent, overseeing superintendent or chief choir director” “on Neginoth” which means “upon a stringed instrument with a taunting or mocking song”, “Maschil” or “a song or poem of contemplation”, “A Psalm” which means “a poem or melody set to notes” “of David” or “belonging to David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Israel”, and in chapter fifty-five and verse one of Psalms David said, “Give ear to my prayer, O God”, where we read,
Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not yourself from my supplication.
The verse begins, “Give ear to my prayer, O God;” David began with the words, “Give ear” or “hear, listen and hearken” “to my prayer” which means “to my, David's, intercession, supplication and by implication a hymn”, “O God” or “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. David appealed to the Divine judge Jehovah God to listen and pay attention to his intercession and supplication.
The verse continues, “and hide not yourself from my supplication.” David added the words, “and hide not yourself” or “do not conceal or make secret, your own self, Jehovah God” “from my supplication” which means “apart and separated from my, David's, graciousness, entreaty and favor”. David beckoned Jehovah God not to conceal Himself from his graciousness and favor.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David once again made his appeal to Jehovah God to listen to his intercession and supplication. He did not want God to make Himself secret from his favor and graciousness. Every person should cry out to Jehovah God in this manner because He desires to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind, and when we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and pay attention to us when we call upon Him.
Next time David says, “Attend unto me, and hear me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
