In Psalms chapter fifty five David said, “Cast your burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain you: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved”, and in chapter fifty-five and verse twenty-three of Psalms David said, “You, O God, shall bring them down”, where we read,
But you, O God, shall bring them down into the pit of destruction:
bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in you.
The verse begins, “But you, O God, shall bring them down into the pit of destruction:” David began with the words, “But you, O God” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover you, O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “shall bring them down” which means “will make descend, sink and subdue the friend who betrayed David” “into the pit of destruction” or “into the well or spring pertaining to corruption, the ditch or grave”. David said the Divine judge Jehovah God would make the friend who betrayed him to sink into a well of corruption or the grave.
The verse continues, “bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in you.” David added the words, “bloody and deceitful men” or “people both male and female who shed blood and are treacherous, fraudulent, false and filled with guilt and craft” “shall not live out” which means “will in no manner or way have long life but will be alive” “half their days” or “of the division of time or portion of the lifetime allotted to them”; “but I will trust in you” which means “however, nonetheless and notwithstanding I, David, shall have faith, confidence and be secure within you, Divine judge Jehovah God”. David said people who are treacherous and shed blood will have short lives, but he would put his faith and confidence in Jehovah God.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David concluded this psalm with the idea that Jehovah God would take vengeance upon the friend who betrayed him. David knew God had a place for this friend who was now turned foe, and He has reserved a place for every person who practices treachery and bloodshed and do not humble themselves and trust in His Son Jesus. God's Son Jesus came into the world to die for the sins of every person, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life with Him and accompany us when rivals appear. God's invitation is to every person to come to Him for salvation, but if they resist and refuse Him, they will be sent to the “pit of destruction” where they shall spend all eternity.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see David say, “Be merciful unto me, O God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
