In Psalms chapter fifty one David said, “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to your lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of your tender mercies blot out my transgressions”, and in chapter fifty-one and verse two of Psalms David said, “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity”, where we read,
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
The verse begins, “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, ...” David began with the words, “wash me thoroughly” or “cleanse me, David, like a fuller” “ from my iniquity” which means “apart and separate from my, David's, perversity, depravity and guilt”. David appealed to Jehovah God to cleanse him from his perversity and depravity.
The verse goes on to say, “... and cleanse me from my sin.” David continued with the words, “and cleanse me” or “make me, David, pure, ceremonially clean and purified” “from my sin” which means “apart and separate from my, David's, error, wrong, mistake and occasion of offense”. David desired that Jehovah God make him clean from his error and wrong.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David wanted Jehovah to make him clean from his perversity and to make him pure from his error and wrong. Sin haunts, and the guilt and shame that it caused David made him desire to be “cleansed” by Jehovah God. God knows every person “sins”, and they need a “Savior” to clean them from their errors and wrongs. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and purify us by His gracious lovingkindness. God loves us, and we can count on Him to free and “cleanse” us from our sins when we surrender to Him. (See 1 John 1:9)
Next time David says, “I acknowledge my transgression”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
