In Psalms chapter forty nine David said, “Be not you afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased”, and in chapter forty nine and verse seventeen of Psalms David said, “when he dies he shall carry nothing away” where we read,
For when he dies he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
The verse begins, “For when he dies he shall carry nothing away:” David began with the words, “For when he dies” or “because, since and on account that at the time and moment of the death of the person who is made rich” “he shall carry nothing away” which means “he, the person whether male or female who is made rich, will not take, capture, procure or seize one thing off and apart”. David said at the time and moment the person who is made rich is dead, they take not one thing with them.
The verse goes on to say, “his glory shall not descend after him.” David continued with the words, “his glory” or “ the honor, abundance, splendor and dignity of the person who is made rich” “shall not descend after him” which means “will in no way march, sink or be brought down behind him, the person who is made rich”. David said the honor and splendor of the person who is made rich does not march alongside or with them when they die.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David repeated the idea that no one, not even people who are made rich, takes anything with them when they die. In other words, we leave it all behind. God supplies everything we have and need, and only our souls will go on after death. This is why God sent His Son Jesus into the world. People were to be forever lost because sin separated them from Him. Jesus came to die on the cross to pay the price for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. We are unable to take anything with us when we take our last breath, but we may invest in the eternal things by giving and working in God's Kingdom on earth. (See Matthew 6:19-20)
Next time David says, “though while he lived he blessed his soul”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
