In Psalms chapter fifty two David asked, “Why boast you yourself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endures continually. Your tongue devises mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. You love evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. You love all devouring words, O you deceitful tongue.”, and in chapter fifty-two and verse five of Psalms David said, “God shall likewise destroy you for ever”, where we read,
God shall likewise destroy you for ever, he shall take you away,
and pluck you out of your dwelling place, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.
The verse begins, “God shall likewise destroy you for ever, he shall take you away, ...” David began with the words, “God shall likewise destroy you” or “the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God will in the same manner overthrow, beat and break down you, mighty man who boasts in mischief” “for ever” which means “to perpetuity, victory and enduring everlastingness”, “he shall take you away” or “he, the Divine judge, will lay hold of, seize and snatch up you, mighty man who boasts in mischief”. David said the Divine judge would overthrow and beat down the people who brag about themselves in their wickedness and wrong.
The verse continues, “... and pluck you out of your dwelling place, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.” David added the words, “and pluck you out” or “and tear you away, mighty man who brags about themselves” “of your dwelling place” which means “from your habitation, home and abode”, “and root you out of the land” or “and uproot, displace and eradicate you, mighty man who boasts in mischief, from the territory, region, district and country” “of the living” which means “belonging to the flowing, fresh and active community”. “Selah” or “exalt, lift up and pause to meditate upon it”. David said the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God would tear away, displace and eradicate the mighty person who brags upon their wickedness, and anyone reading his words should pause and meditate upon this idea.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how David relied upon his Divine judge Jehovah God to displace and eradicate people who boast in their mischievous ways. Paul the apostle said, “vengeance is mine. I will repay, says the Lord” (See Romans 12:19) which he recalled from the prophet Isaiah (See Isaiah 63:4). God knows every sin and error that people commit, and because every one sins, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and defend us against everyone who boasts in their wickedness.
Next time David says, “the righteous also shall see, and fear”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
