In Psalms chapter fifty one David said, “Do good in your good pleasure unto Zion: build you the walls of Jerusalem”, and in chapter fifty-one and verse nineteen of Psalms David told God, “then shall you be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness”, where we read,
Then shall you be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon your altar.
The verse begins, “Then shall you be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering:” David began with the words, “Then shall you be pleased” or “at that time will you, Jehovah God the Divine ruler, exist as delighted, favored and have pleasure” “with the sacrifices” which means “with the offerings and thanksgiving”, “of righteousness” or “belonging to justice, rightness and justification”, “with burnt offering” which means “with sacrifices which are burned with smoke” “with whole burnt offering” or “with sacrifices which are entirely, utterly and every whit burned in smoke and flames”. David said at the time Jehovah God does “good” in His “good pleasure in Zion”, He would delight in the “sacrifices and offerings” of righteousness offered to Him.
The verse continues, “then shall they offer bullocks upon your altar.” David added the words, “then shall they offer bullocks” or “at that time will people ascend, go and bring up young bulls or steers” “upon your altar” which means “on your, Jehovah God's, place of slaughter”. David said people would bring young bulls and steers to Jehovah God's place of sacrifice after He reestablished the “walls of Jerusalem”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David kept his attention not only upon Jerusalem, but also the reestablishment of the offering sacrifices unto Jehovah God. God not only would restore salvation to David, but also to Jerusalem which was to suffer from his wrong. God desires obedience and willingness in the hearts of people who present sacrifices and offerings to Him, even as the writer of Hebrews said, “Wherefore when he comes into the world, he said, Sacrifice and offering you would not, but a body have you prepared me:”, and “Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin you would not, neither had pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;” (See Psalm 40:6-8 and Hebrews 10:5, 8) God's Son Jesus became the propitiation or appeasing sacrifice for the sins of mankind when He died upon the cross, (See 1 John 2:2 and 4:10) and only when we surrender to Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord” will we receive forgiveness of sins and everlasting life with God. This is our ultimate “sacrifice and offering” of heart, and all we must do is humble ourselves and yield.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see David ask, “Why boast you yourself in mischief, O mighty man?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
