In Psalms chapter forty nine David said, “Be not you afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased. For when he dies he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him. Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise you, when you do well to yourself”, and in chapter forty nine and verse nineteen of Psalms David said, “he shall go to the generation of his fathers” where we read,
He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
The verse begins, “He shall go to the generation of his fathers;” David began with the words, “He shall go” or “the person who blesses their soul and receives the praise of others, will be brought, carried and depart” “to the generation” which means “toward the posterity” “of his fathers” or “belonging to the person's male ancestors and progenitors”. David said the person who blesses themselves and receives the honor of others will join their ancestors who have died before them.
The verse goes on to say, “they shall never see light.” David continued with the word, “they” or “the person who blesses themselves and receives the honor of others” “shall never see light” which means “will not at any time observe, behold, notice, discover or discern illumination and brightness of day”. David said the person who blesses themselves and is honored by others will not at any time observe illumination and brightness of day.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see through David how there is no exemption from death for the person who blesses themselves and receives praise and reverence from others. Everyone dies, and regardless of their adoration and praise of their own selves or how other people worship and love them, they will not live on the earth forever. However, everyone will have an eternal life, and Jesus Christ came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind so they could be forgiven of their sins and have everlasting life with His Father God. God loves us, and He makes aware of the temporal nature of everything on earth. His desire is to have an intimate personal relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus, and when we yield to Him, we shall avoid “eternal darkness” and live in the “light” with God forever. (See Matthew 8:12, 22:13 and 25:30)
Next time David shares about, “man that is in honor, and understands not”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
