Strangers Risen Against Me - Psalms 54:3

In Psalms chapter fifty four David said, “Save me, O God, by your name, and judge me by your strength. Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth”, and in chapter fifty-four and verse three of Psalms David said, “strangers are risen up against me”, where we read,

For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul:

they have not set God before them. Selah.

The verse begins, For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul:” David began with the words, “for strangers” or “because, since and on account that foreigners, aliens and enemies” “are risen up against me” which means “arise, are fixed, valid and proven in opposition to me, David”, “and oppressors” or “and terror-striking, ruthless and mighty ones” “seek after my soul” which means “require, desire, exact and request my, David's, inner man, life, mind, will, appetite and seat of emotions and passions”. David said the reason he wanted Jehovah God to listen to his prayers was because foreigners and ruthless mighty enemies arose in opposition to him and desired to take his life away from him.

The verse goes on to say, they have not set God before them. Selah.” David continued with the words, “they have not set God” or “the foreigners and enemies of David in no way have put, established and fixed the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “before them” which means “in front and in the sight of them, the enemies and foreign ruthless ones”. “Selah” or “exalt, uplift and pause to meditate upon it”. David said his ruthless enemies in no way established Jehovah God in their sight, and everyone who is reading and listening to his words should pause and meditate upon this idea.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through David why he made his appeal to God to hear his prayer. David's ruthless enemies had no regard for Jehovah God, so they pursued him and wanted him dead. Illicit behavior comes from people who do not believe and trust in God nor in His Son Jesus who came to die on the cross for their sins. Anyone who submits to Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Him. However, those who refuse and reject Him have not regarded nor set Him before their eyes, and they will be eternally separated from Him. (See Matthew 7:23)

Next time David says, “God is my helper”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
