In Psalms chapter fifty five David said, “He has delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me. God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abides of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God. He has put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him: he has broken his covenant. The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords”, and in chapter fifty-five and verse twenty-two of Psalms David said, “cast your burden upon the LORD”, where we read,
Cast your burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain you:
he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
The verse begins, “Cast your burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain you:” David began with the words, “Cast your burden” or “throw, shed and hurl your, whoever reads and listens to David's words, lot, care, anxiety and what is given as a portion” “upon the LORD” which means “on Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “and he shall sustain you” or “and he, Jehovah God, will receive, abide with and nourish you, whoever reads and listens to David's words”. David instructed his readers and listeners to throw off their cares and anxieties upon Jehovah God, and He would receive and nourish all who do.
The verse goes on to say, “he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” David continued with the words, “he shall never suffer” or “he, Jehovah God, will not at any time allow and permit” “the righteous” which means “the lawful, correct and just person” “to be moved” or “to totter, shake, slip or be overthrown”. David said Jehovah God would not in any way allow and permit the lawful and just person to totter, shake or be overthrown.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see not only instruction from David when cares and anxieties come into our lives, but also are given a promise that Jehovah God will nourish and receive everyone who “casts” them upon Him. God loves people, and His desire is to have an intimate personal relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus. When we surrender our lives to Jesus, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. Although cares, troubles and anxieties are part of living, we who believe and trust in Jesus may come to the Heavenly Father in Jesus' name and place them all at His feet. (See 1 Peter 5:7) Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for their “care” for us when we are greatly troubled inside.
Next time David says, “You, O God, shall bring them down”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
