In Psalms chapter fifty Asaph said, “unto the wicked God says, What have you to do to declare my statutes, or that you should take my covenant in your mouth? Seeing you hate instruction, and cast my words behind you. When you saw a thief, then you consented with him, and have been partaker with adulterers. You give your mouth to evil, and your tongue frames deceit. You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son”, and in chapter fifty and verse twenty-one of Psalms Asaph shared how Jehovah God told the wicked, “these things have you done, and I kept silence” where we read,
These things have you done, and I kept silence; you thought that I was altogether such an one as yourself: but I will reprove you, and set them in order before your eyes.
The verse begins, “These things have you done, and I kept silence; you thought that I was altogether such an one as yourself:” Asaph began with the words, “these things have you done” or “speaking against their brother and the offspring of their mother you, the wicked, performed, made ready and produced”, “and I kept silence” which means “and I, Jehovah God, remained quiet, deaf and let alone”; “you thought” or “you, the wicked, imagined, devised and considered” “that I was altogether such an one as yourself” or “that I, Jehovah God, became, existed and happened in likeness to yourself or the wicked's own self”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God pointed our the evil behavior of the “wicked” while He said and did nothing about it, and His silence caused them to imagine that Jehovah God was like them.
The verse goes on to say, “but I will reprove you, and set them in order before your eyes.” Asaph continued with the words, “but I will reprove you” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover I, Jehovah God, shall prove, judge, correct and judge you, the wicked”, “and set them in order” which means “and position, set, put and arrange the wicked's errors” “before your eyes” or “in the presence and in front of your, the wicked's, physical, mental and spiritual faculties”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God said He would judge and correct the acts and deeds belonging to the “wicked”, and He would correctly arrange and deal with them in the presence of their physical, mental and spiritual faculties.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how nothing is hidden from the eyes of Jehovah God. He sees all. He hears all, and He will judge and set in order every act, deed and speech that people have performed. The Bible is very clear, “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (See Hebrews 9:27), and everyone will give an account of what they have done on the earth. The idea is that everyone is guilty of sin, (See Romans 3:10, 3:23) and no one is given a pass on their own merits. God knew this, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. Anyone who yields to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. In other words, at the time of judgment, for those who have put their faith and trust in Jesus, He will stand before His Father Almighty God and tell Him that He paid the price for their sins because they believed in me. (See John 11:25,26; 12:46) Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God for His provision for our rescue and salvation, and may we never be among those who believe Jehovah God does not see or hear and is in likeness to them in their evil deeds.
Next time Asaph says, “consider this, you that forget God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
