In Psalms chapter fifty two David asked, “Why boast you yourself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endures continually. Your tongue devises mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully”, and in chapter fifty-two and verse three of Psalms David said, “you love evil more than good”, where we read,
You love evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
The verse begins, “You love evil more than good;” David began with the words, “you love evil” or “you, Doeg, have affection and appetite for bad, disagreeableness, unpleasantness, malignancy and displeasure” “more than good” which means “to a greater and more abundant measure than pleasantness, agreeableness, excellence, value and prosperity”. David said “Doeg” was affectionate toward wickedness and malignancy to a greater degree than that which is pleasant, agreeable and excellent.
The verse goes on to say, “and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.” David continued with the words, “and lying” or “and deceptions, fraud, falsehood and wrong” “rather than to speak righteousness” which means “instead of uttering, declaring and proclaiming justice, rightness, victory and prosperity”. “Selah” or “exalt, lift up and pause to meditate upon it”. David said “Doeg” also loved speaking falsehoods and wrongs instead of proclaiming justice and prosperity.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through David more specifically how “Doeg” used his “tongue” and the driving force behind what he said. “Doeg” loved bad, and he disregarded that which is “good”. God Almighty provided “Doeg” with his ability to speak, but he chose to use his voice to proclaim that which was evil. We also have a choice for the way we will use our God provided voices and means of communication. God wants us to humble ourselves, repent of our sins and receive His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, and when we use our “tongues” in this manner, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. Let us “pause and meditate” upon the idea of using our “tongues” wisely and never be known for loving “evil” more than “good” or relishing “lying” more than the truth.
Next time David says, “you love all devouring words”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
