Psalms chapter fifty four begins with the heading, “[[To the chief Musician on Neginoth, Maschil, A Psalm of David, when the Ziphims came and said to Saul, Does not David hide himself with us?]]” which breaks down, “to the chief Musician” or “to the preeminent, overseeing superintendent or chief choir director” “on Neginoth” which means “upon a stringed instrument with a taunting or mocking song”, “Maschil” or “a song or poem of contemplation”, “A Psalm” which means “a poem or melody set to notes” “of David” or “belonging to David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Israel”, “when the Ziphims came” which means “at the time and moment the inhabitants of Ziph arose and appeared whose name means smelters” “and said to Saul” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed to Saul whose name means desired and was a Benjamite, son of Kish, and the first king of Israel”, “does David hide himself with us” which means “does David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Israel conceal and make secret his own self alongside us, the Ziphims”?, (See 1 Samuel 23:19-0) and in chapter fifty-four and verse one of Psalms David said, “Save me, O God, by your name, and judge me by your strength”, where we read,
Save me, O God, by your name, and judge me by your strength.
The verse begins, “Save me, O God, by your name, ...” David began with the words, “Save me” or “deliver, rescue and be victorious for me, David”, “O God” which means “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “by your name” or “through the means of your, the Divine judge Jehovah God's, fame, reputation and glory”. David appealed to the Divine judge Jehovah God to rescue and deliver him through the means of His own “reputation and glory”.
The verse goes on to say, “... and judge me by your strength.” David continued with the words, “and judge me” or “and contend, minister, requite and vindicate me, David” “by your strength” which means “through the means of your, Jehovah God the Divine judge's, power, might, valor and bravery”. David requested that Jehovah God also contend and minister on his behalf through the means of His power, might and bravery.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David appealed to Jehovah God in the midst of his trouble. He sought to take refuge away from King Saul in the hill of Hachilah on the south of Jeshimon, however, the Ziphites told Saul where David was hiding. Saul was seeking to eliminate David at this time, and David was on the run. When he thought he had refuge in the hills, he was found out and reported. God knew where David was, and He had a plan for David's life. God has a plan for our lives as well, and this is why He sent His Son Jesus to be crucified on a cross for our sins so we would no longer be separated from Him, but have our sins forgiven and inherit everlasting life. God was David's resource and defense, and we should submit our lives to Him through His Son Jesus to receive the promise of His protection and judgment according to His power and might.
Next time David says, “Hear my prayer, O God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
