Psalms chapter fifty begins with the heading, “[[A Psalm of Asaph.]]” which breaks down, “a Psalm” or “a melody or poem set to notes” “of Asaph” or “belonging to Asaph whose name means gatherer and was one of David's chief musicians”, and in chapter fifty and verse one of Psalms Asaph said, “The mighty God, even the LORD, has spoken” where we read,
The mighty God, even the LORD, has spoken,
and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
The verse begins, “The mighty God, even the LORD, has spoken, ...” Asaph began with the words, “The mighty God” or “the strong, powerful, great and Almighty Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “even the LORD” which means “also and indeed Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “has spoken” or “has uttered, declared and proclaimed”. Asaph referred the utterance and proclamation of the strong and powerful Divine judge who is Jehovah God.
The verse goes on to say, “... and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.” David continued with the words, “and called the earth” or “and summons all humanity in the land, country, territory, district, region and world” “from the rising of the sun” which means “apart and separate from the eastward place of the sunrise” “unto the going down thereof” or “until the sun sets in the evening time”. Asaph said the Divine judge Jehovah God calls out to everyone in the world from the time the sunrises in the morning until it sets in the evening.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph referred to the way Almighty Jehovah God beckons everyone in the world to have a personal relationship with Him. He calls out all day long and in the evening hours, and He invites people to come to Him. God loves people, and He knew unless their sins were removed, they would be forever separated from Him. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Jesus, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life. His invitation is to “come”, believe in Jesus today, and all who are wise humble themselves and surrender to Him.
Next time Asaph says, “Out of Zion … God has shined.”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
