In the Day of Trouble - Psalms 77:2

In Psalms chapter seventy-seven Asaph said, “I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me”, and in chapter seventy-seven and verse two of Psalms Asaph said, In the day of my trouble I sought the Lordwhere we read,

In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not:

my soul refused to be comforted.

The verse begins, In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: Asaph began with the words, “In the day of my trouble” or “within the division of time or period pertaining to my, Asaph's, straits, distresses and vexation” “I sought the Lord” which means “I, Asaph, resorted to, consulted with, inquired of and prayed to Adonay or the reverent master”: “my sore” or “my, Asaph's, hand” “ran in the night” which means “was stretched out within the night time or season”, “and ceased not” or “and did not grow numb, be feeble, faint or slack”. Asaph said within the time that he experienced distresses and vexation, he consulted the reverent master Jehovah God and stretched out his hand to Him throughout the nighttime without growing faint.

The verse goes on to say,my soul refused to be comforted. Asaph continued with the words, “my soul refused” or “my, Asaph's, inner man, mind, will, living being, desire and seat of emotions and passions uttered rejected and denied the opportunity” “to be comforted” which means “to exist as consoled, moved to pity and eased”. Asaph declared his inner man, mind and will to have rejected the opportunity to be consoled and eased.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph consulted with Adonay or the Divine judge Jehovah God when he encountered distresses, and he appealed to Him with his hands raised all night long without ceasing. He was so troubled that his inner man, mind and heart would not receive pity or be put at ease. God knows when we encounter great difficulties, and He is attentive to our appeals to Him. He cared enough for the distress of our souls that He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring us comfort and compassion when we face troubles and distresses that overwhelm our souls.

Next time Asaph says, I remembered God, and was troubled, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
