In Psalms chapter seventy-seven Asaph asked, “Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favorable no more? Is his mercy clean gone for ever? does his promise fail for evermore? Has God forgotten to be gracious? has he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah”, and in chapter seventy-seven and verse ten of Psalms Asaph said, “This is my infirmity” where we read,
And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.
The verse begins, “And I said, This is my infirmity:” Asaph began with the words, “and I said” or “and I, Asaph, uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “this is my infirmity” which means “this, the questioning of Jehovah God, exists as my, Asaph's, weakness, disease, grievance and sickness”. Asaph declared his questioning of God to be his weakness.
The verse goes on to say, “but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.” Asaph continued with the words, “but I will remember” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover I, Asaph, shall call to mind and be reminded of” “the years of the right hand” which means “the division, measure and indication of time belonging to the right hand of power, might and authority” “of the most High” or “pertaining to the highest, uppermost, above and Supreme One”. Asaph determined to call to mind the periods of time when the power and authority of Jehovah God was active among himself.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Asaph realized that his questions concerning Jehovah God was a weakness in His life, and he determined to recall the times when the power, might and authority of God was demonstrated among His people. Doubting God can be a weakness, and many of us experience these times. When this happens, we should remember the times God has previously worked in our lives – a time of remembrance so to speak. Remembering helps us to be encouraged in the midst of our doubt, and we should always call to mind that Jehovah God sent His Son Jesus into world to die for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and remind us of His salvation and times in the past when He has intervened in our lives.
Next time Asaph says, “I will remember the works of the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
