In Psalms chapter eighty four the Psalmist said, “Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of your anointed”, and in chapter eighty four and verse ten of Psalms the Psalmist said, “a day in your courts is better than a thousand” where we read,
For a day in your courts is better than a thousand.
I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
The verse begins, “For a day in your courts is better than a thousand.” The Psalmist began with the word, “For a day” or “because, since and on account that a sunrise to sunset” “in your courts” which means “within your, Jehovah God's, enclosure, settled abode, village and town” “is better than a thousand” or “exists as more excellent, pleasant, rich and valuable in estimation than a thousand days anywhere else”. The Psalmist said a single day within the sacred worship place of Jehovah God exceeded a thousand days spent in any other place.
The verse continues, “I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” The Psalmist added the words, “I had rather be a doorkeeper” or “I, the Psalmist, would choose, elect and decide to exist as the standing guard at the threshold” “in the house of my God” which means “within the dwelling place, habitation or abode belonging to my, the Psalmist's, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “than to dwell in the tents” or “than to heap, pile, gyrate and move in a circle within the habitations, homes and wilderness life” “of wickedness” which means “belonging to wrong, guilt and moral iniquity”. The Psalmist preferred existing as the one who stands guard at the door of the temple threshold rather than to live within the dwelling places of morally wrong and evil people.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist showed his passion and preference for tending the door of the sacred worship place of Jehovah God over being in other places or living among evil people. God loves everyone, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to minister to Him and His people in the place He desires and among His people.
Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD God is a sun and shield”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
