In Psalms chapter eighty four the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah”, and in chapter eighty four and verse nine of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Behold, O God our shield”, where we read,
Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of your anointed.
The verse begins, “Behold, O God our shield, ...” The Psalmist began with the word, “Behold” or “lo, look and consider”, “O God” which means “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “our shield” or “the Psalmist and the people of Israel's buckler, defense and ruler”. The Psalmist referred to Jehovah God as he and the people of Israel's protector as he beckoned Him to consider them.
The verse goes on to say, “... and look upon the face of your anointed.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and look upon the face” or “and regard, pay attention to and consider the front and presence” “of your anointed” which means “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, the consecrated one”. The Psalmist called upon Jehovah God to consider the presence of His consecrated one.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist wanted Jehovah God to consider his and the people of Israel's defense and to show favor to the presence of His consecrated people. God chose the people of Israel to be the nation through which His Son Jesus the Messiah would come, and all the world would be benefited by the presence of Him. Jesus died on the cross and rose three days later so that everyone who believes and trusts in Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Him. Jehovah God desires to be our defense, and He wants to spread His favor upon everyone who surrenders to Jesus. Let us join the Psalmist and call upon God to “behold” us and to consider the presence of His “anointed”.
Next time the Psalmist says, “a day in your courts is better than a thousand”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
