In Psalms chapter eighty three Asaph spoke of the enemies of Israel and said, “O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind. As the fire burns a wood, and as the flame sets the mountains on fire. So persecute them with your tempest, and make them afraid with your storm”, and in chapter eighty three and verse sixteen of Psalms Asaph said, “fill their faces with shame” where we read,
Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek your name, O LORD.
The verse begins, “Fill their faces with shame;” Asaph began with the words, “fill their faces” or “consecrate, make abundant, accomplished and complete their, the enemies of Jehovah God and Israel's, front parts, surface and presence” “with shame” which means “through the means of ignominy, disgrace and dishonor”. Asaph called upon Jehovah God to make the countenances of His and the people of Israel's enemies to be full of disgrace and dishonor.
The verse continues, “that they may seek your name, O LORD.” Asaph added the words, “that they may seek your name” or “so they, the enemies of Jehovah God and Israel, might require, desire, request and secure your, Jehovah God's, fame, reputation and glory”, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Asaph beckoned Jehovah God to consecrate the “faces” of His enemies with disgrace so they might desire His fame, reputation and glory.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Asaph wanted Jehovah God to make His and the people of Israel's enemies to be disgraced and dishonored because this might make them desire His fame, reputation and glory. In other words, their “shame” might make them “seek” a relationship with Jehovah God. God will use circumstances, situations and people to bring us to a place of “disgrace” so we will call upon Him. He sent His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to live with Him in Heaven where we shall give Him praise, honor and glory for all eternity.
Next time Asaph says, “let them be confounded and troubled for ever”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
