In Psalms chapter eighty three Asaph spoke of the enemies of Israel and said, “O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind. As the fire burns a wood, and as the flame sets the mountains on fire”, and in chapter eighty three and verse fifteen of Psalms Asaph beckoned Jehovah God to, “persecute them with your tempest”, where we read,
So persecute them with your tempest, and make them afraid with your storm.
The verse begins, “So persecute them with your tempest, ...” Asaph began with the words, “so persecute them” or “therefore, wherefore and these things being so pursue, run after, harass and put to flight them, the enemies of Jehovah God and Israel” “with your tempest” which means “by the means of your, Jehovah God's, hurricane, storm or whirlwind”. Asaph called upon Jehovah God to harass and put to flight His and the people of Israel's enemies with His whirlwind.
The verse goes on to say, “... and make them afraid with your storm.” Asaph continued with the words, “and make them afraid” or “and cause them, the enemies of Jehovah God and Israel, to be alarmed, disturbed, frightened and dismayed ” “with your storm” which means “by the use of your, Jehovah God's, overflowing wind”. Asaph wanted Jehovah God to cause His and the people of Israels's enemies to be frightened by the use of His overflowing wind.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph wanted Jehovah God to use the weather to cause His enemies to be dismayed. God rules over the universe, and all tools are available to Him. We can only imagine how the extreme winds and daunting storms would make God's enemies “afraid”. Judgment against people is not God's first choice. He wants to have an intimate personal relationship with every person, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind to make that possible. When we believe in Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect us from the “tempest” and the “storms” that are available to Him to use against those who oppose Him. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God for His invitation to make Him our personal God.
Next time Asaph says, “fill their faces with shame”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
