In Psalms chapter eighty five the Psalmist said, “LORD, you have been favorable unto your land: you have brought back the captivity of Jacob”, and in chapter eighty five and verse two of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “You have forgiven the iniquity of your people”, where we read,
You have forgiven the iniquity of your people, you have covered all their sin. Selah.
The verse begins, “You have forgiven the iniquity of your people, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “you have forgiven” or “you, Jehovah God, have taken away, carried off and swept away” “the iniquity” which means “the perversity, depravity, guilt of condition, evil and mischief” “of your people” or “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, human beings both male and female”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God took and swept away the perversity and evil within His people Israel.
The verse continues, “... you have covered all their sin. Selah.” The Psalmist added the words, “you have covered” or “you, Jehovah God, have overwhelmed, concealed and spread over” “all their sin” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of His people's, missing of the mark, errors, wrongs and mistakes”. “Selah” or “lift up, exalt and pause to meditate upon it”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God concealed every wrong His people committed, and this idea is worthy of pausing to meditate upon it.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist continued his intercession with Jehovah God by mentioning God's “forgiveness” of the wrongs and evils of His people, and He mentioned the way God concealed their errors and mistakes as well. God is a forgiving God, and He desires to forgive everyone of their “sins”. Paul the apostle wrote, “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (See Romans 6:23), and God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and inspire us to give Him praise, honor and glory for all eternity for forgiving and covering our errors and wrongs.
Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “you have taken away all your wrath”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
