God Favorable to His Land - Psalms 85:1

Psalms chapter eighty five begins with the heading, “[[To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah.]]” which breaks down “to the chief Musician” or “to the preeminent, overseeing superintendent or chief choir director”, “A Psalm” which means “a melody or poem set to notes” “for the sons of Korah” or “on behalf and toward the offspring and progeny belonging to Korah whose name means bald”, and in chapter eighty five and verse one of Psalms the Psalmist said, “LORD, you have been favorable unto your land: you have brought back the captivity of Jacob” where we read,

LORD, you have been favorable unto your land: you have brought back the captivity of Jacob.

The verse begins, LORD, you have been favorable unto your land: The Psalmist began with the word, “LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “you have been favorable” which means “you, Jehovah God, have been pleased with, satisfying and acceptable” “unto your land” or “toward your, Jehovah God's, country, territory, district, region and world”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God poured out His kindness and blessings upon His country.

The verse goes on to say,you have brought back the captivity of Jacob. The Psalmist continued with the words, “you have brought back” or “you, Jehovah God, have returned and restored” “the captivity of Jacob” which means “the former state of prosperity belonging to Jacob whose name means heel-catcher or supplanter and is son of Isaac, grandson of Abraham, and father of the twelve patriarchs of the tribes of Israel”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God restored the prosperity of the people of Israel.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist recalled the kindness and blessings of Jehovah God to the “land” of the people of Israel. He mentioned the prosperity that God returned to them, and this becomes a wonderful example for us when we address Him in our prayers. God is the Creator of the Universe, and it is He that has given us life, breath and whatever we have in our lives. He provided His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life. Jehovah God desires to be “favorable” to us, and He is willing to return prosperity and blessings to us while we will give Him praise, honor and glory for all eternity for His blessings.

Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “You have forgiven the iniquity of your people”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
